WHEN DOES THE MARCH START? WHAT IS THE SCHEDULE? WHAT IS THE MARCH ROUTE?
The march will begin promptly at 12PM on Saturday, January 21st. Plan to arrive at least ONE HOUR EARLY to assemble on the south lawn of the Capitol grounds. We will leave from the south gate of the capitol at 12PM and walk down Congress Ave towards 6th Street, across 6th, and north on Lavaca back to the south lawn.
The march route is approximately 1.5 miles, and should take about 1.5 hours to bring all participants back to the south lawn of the capitol around 1:30. From approximately 1:45 to about 3:30, there will be speakers, performances, and programming on the south lawn. For updates on schedules and times, follow on Twitter or on Facebook.
There will be rolling closures on Lavaca once the march begins.
WHAT IF IT RAINS?
We will march rain or shine. Check Saturday’s forecast here to be sure you’re prepared.
I’M NOT A WOMAN, AM I INVITED?
Yes! The March hopes to represent the voices of all individuals who believe women’s rights are human rights and that defending the most marginalized among us means defending all of us and welcomes any person regardless of gender or gender identity.
WILL IT BE SAFE? CAN I BRING MY KIDS?
The Women’s March on Austin has a team of experienced organizers working closely with the City of Austin, Austin Police Department, department of Public Safety and Austin-Travis County EMS to ensure that every safety protocol is followed. The March is first and foremost a peaceful demonstration, but expect large crowds and to be standing for the duration of the event. The choice to bring children is a personal one, but they are welcome to attend if you see fit.
Strollers are ok to bring. We suggest that you not bring wagons due to the number of marchers we are expecting.
CAN I BRING MY DOG?
Yes, but be aware that we are expecting 20k+ marchers and it will be loud. If your dog is unable to handle crowds and drumming/chanting, we suggest you leave them at home.
CAN I BRING A BACKPACK OR BAG?
They are allowed; be aware that you may be subjected to a security search.
WHAT KIND OF SIGNS/BANNERS CAN I BRING?
This is a free speech event – we’re not going to tell you what you can or cannot say. We do ask that you keep the spirit of the march in mind when making signs. This is an inclusive march for women’s rights that aims to bring diverse voices together in solidarity and strength. The march is non-partisan, and we want to spread a message of hope, togetherness, and positivity.
I WANT MY ORGANIZATION TO BE INVOLVED. HOW CAN WE JOIN THE MOBILIZATION?

WILL THE WMA BE ACCESSIBLE FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES?
The WMA is committed to ensuring that the march is accessible to people with disabilities. We are working with volunteers to ensure translation for people that are Deaf and hearing impaired, and are committed to including access points for people with disabilities that require the use of a wheelchair.
There will be an area with seating to accommodate people with disabilities, during the march and the following program. Limited accessible parking will be available at the Capitol and in participating Capitol Garages. Visit marchonaustin.com/transportation for a complete description of accesible parking.
Pedicabs will be available during the march for people with limited mobility. If you know you will need a pedicab to allow you to participate in the march, please submit your information here and plan to be at the pedicab pickup station on 11th between Congress and Brazos by 11:30 a.m. There are a limited number of pedicabs, so it is first come, first served who sign up.
If you cannot stand for the rally you are welcome to bring a camp of folding chair.
WILL THERE BE SHIRTS/MERCH FOR SALE?
No. Our permit prohibits the sale of anything on the capitol grounds.
WILL THERE BE PORT-A-POTTIES?
Yes. They will be stationed around the capitol grounds. You can also use the facilitates in the capitol complex – note that you can’t bring your sign in the building if it has a handle.
